DESKDROP HELP
Keep your images
in sight.
Get started on Mac, send an image from your iPhone or iPad, and make your desktop your own.
For DeskDrop 1.0. Coming soon for Mac, iPhone and iPad.
Get started on Mac
Open DeskDrop. Copy an image, then click its menu-bar icon to add the image to your desktop. To choose image files instead, right-click the icon and choose Add Images. You can select several files.
Right-click the menu-bar icon and choose Settings to open your library and layout controls. In Freeform, drag images to position them and drag either lower corner to resize. Grid arranges images into rows with controls for spacing and sorting.
Send an image from iPhone or iPad
- In Photos, select one photo or screenshot.
- Tap Share, then choose DeskDrop in the app row.
- When “Added to DeskDrop” appears, tap Done.
The confirmation means the image was saved to DeskDrop’s destination. Your Mac can receive it after iCloud synchronizes it; the confirmation does not mean it has already arrived.
Use the same Apple Account and enable iCloud Drive on both devices. On Mac, keep DeskDrop running and check that iCloud inbox is enabled in Settings. You do not need to enable Desktop & Documents syncing for this feature.
Apple’s iCloud Drive setup guideUse a Shortcut on iPhone or iPad
You can also send an image through a Shortcut that uses DeskDrop’s image-sharing action. You must add the action to your own Shortcut and run it. The image uses the same iCloud inbox as Share-sheet sharing, so the Mac app must be running with iCloud inbox enabled. Availability of the action depends on your operating-system version.
Your library and image removal
Open Settings from the menu-bar icon. The library sidebar includes All Images, On Desktop, Waiting and Removed. Search finds images by name.
What does Waiting mean?
The image is saved in your library but does not currently fit on the desktop. Make space, reduce Scale all, or switch to Freeform. The number beside the menu-bar icon shows how many images are waiting.
How do I remove or restore an image?
Hover over the image and click ×, or right-click it and choose Remove Image. To restore it, choose Undo Removal, or open Removed in the library, select the image, right-click it and choose Restore Selected.
Common questions
DeskDrop is missing from the Share sheet.
Swipe left across the row of apps, tap More, then Edit. Enable DeskDrop if it is hidden, add it to Favorites and move it near the front. Use the app row rather than Edit Actions. Other apps may have their own sharing preferences.
My image has not arrived on Mac.
Check the Apple Account on both devices, iCloud Drive, internet access and available iCloud storage. Make sure DeskDrop is running on Mac with iCloud inbox enabled. Finish any image dragging or resizing, then right-click the menu-bar icon and choose Refresh iCloud. Also check Waiting in the library. Sync timing depends on iCloud; refreshing does not guarantee immediate delivery.
I see “DeskDrop isn’t ready yet” or “Couldn’t add this image.”
Check iCloud Drive, then tap Try again. If the image cannot be opened, return to Photos and share one supported image again.
I see “Copy an image first.”
Copy image content or an image file, then click the menu-bar icon again. You can also right-click the icon and choose Add Images to select a file directly.
Can I use a keyboard shortcut?
In Settings, use Keyboard Shortcut → Add image → Record Shortcut. Choose two modifier keys, including Command or Control, plus another key. The shortcut adds the copied image while DeskDrop is running. No shortcut is assigned initially. If macOS reports a conflict, choose another combination.
Can DeskDrop open at login?
Enable Open at Login in Settings. Install DeskDrop in Applications first. If macOS requests approval, check System Settings → General → Login Items.
Which devices are supported?
Mac: macOS 13 or later, on Intel or Apple silicon.
iPhone and iPad: iOS or iPadOS 15 or later.
The desktop pinboard runs on Mac; iPhone and iPad provide the image-sharing companion.
